Hatch Design
Hatch Design
(OP)
I tried starting this thread in the Gear Forum with no response so I will try this one... I am design a hatch the locks with a mechanism similar to a bank vault, i.e. having a centrally located hand wheel which when turned advances a series of radial pins outward. I am not sure how the gear arrangement inside the hatch should be designed (if it is gears or some other mechanism). A series of sample photos from the twenties can be viewed from the following link. It shows very well what I am trying to descibe above, but on a larger scale.

If anyone has any insight or links to information, regardless of how general, all would be appreciated.

O.N.: I have not seen anything like a "diaphragm style mechanism" unless it is called something else. Do you have any details?
Philrock: The pins seen minimal force as they move outward. They will be under signicant shear loasding once the hatch comes under pressure.
I realize that there is a great number of ways to approach this, but I was curious if anyone had any details on the inner workings of the specific design on the web link. I am basically doing a little 'legwork' now on diffenent design approaches already available without having to reinvent the wheel.
