Pins with grease Holes

Pins with grease Holes

(OP)
I would be very much appreciative if anyone could assist with reference material on analysis of Pins with greased holes. I know Bhrun did touched on the topic but not in great details. I am particularly concerned about the effect of the grease holes on the section modulus of the Pin in bending.

Regards.

RE: Pins with grease Holes

take a section through the hole, calc section properties on what's left.

Thanks rb1957,

I completely understand that, however does it actually make much difference to the stresses acting(in reality) considering that the grease holes are quite small. Also, do you need to account for Kt effect given that the hole is somewhat a stress feature in itself.

Regards.

RE: Pins with grease Holes

agreed, the nett area probably doesn't change the stress level much.  as for Kt, i wouldn't include Kt in a static strength analysis, but you would for the fatigue loads (ie, take your fatigue stress, with a Kt = 3, to determine your life.
