Is it a good practice to install vacuum breaker on crude pipeline

Is it a good practice to install vacuum breaker on crude pipeline

(OP)
Currently we are doing a crude transfer line design from jetty to the onshore tank field. When finished the unloading crude, we use a stripping pump to de-inventory the crude transfer line (30"). A vacuum breaker is installed on the crude pipeline for the stripping operation. Is it a good practice to install vacuum breaker for the crude service (bring air into the crude vapour)? My concern is that the risk of either a detonation or deflagration in the pipe. Do we have guidelines or standard for this type of operation?

RE: Is it a good practice to install vacuum breaker on crude pipeline

Unless it is utilization of some inert media as vacuum breaking resource.

We are inviting trouble.May be heading to disasters in criminal way.

Best Regards
