Classic...Just Classic

Classic...Just Classic

(OP)
The TV headline read "Alex Rodriguez admits to using steroids at a news conference".  shocked

Now, I ask you, why would anyone use steroids at a news conference?  ponder

Should have read "Alex Rodriguez admits at a news conference to using steroids."

Misplaced Prepositional Phrase...  Misplaced modifier...

RE: Classic...Just Classic

A bit like the guy who was stabbed to death in this condominium.
An absolutely aweful place to be stabbed, must have been painful.

RE: Classic...Just Classic

read that as "his" not this.

RE: Classic...Just Classic

regarding the condo... I don't get it.

RE: Classic...Just Classic

If I am stabbed in the condo, it doesn't hurt.  If I am stabbed in the chest, it does.

RE: Classic...Just Classic

Could be worse.  You could get stabbed in the back passage.

- Steve

RE: Classic...Just Classic

Er, it didn't say "stabbed in his condo", it said "stabbed to death" in his condo and that makes it acceptable... to me, but who am I?

Like the headlines after Arty the "grocery strangler" discount hit man was caught:  "Arty chokes two for a dollar at Safeway!"

RE: Classic...Just Classic

True - A Sailor just got an award for saving the Weapons Officer's life at a ceremony.  Must have been a killer ceremony.

A few of my personal favourites.

BRITISH PUSH BOTTLES UP GERMANS
(WWII story about a successful British Army campaign)

DRUNK GETS NINE MONTHS IN VIOLIN CASE

IRAQI HEAD SEEKS ARMS

QUEEN MARY HAVING BOTTOM SCRAPED

PANDA MATING FAILS
VETERINARIAN TAKES OVER

SOVIET VIRGIN LANDS SHORT OF GOAL AGAIN
(I _THINK_ this one is about a Russian Airline - but maybe not!)

SISTERS REUNITED AFTER 10 YEARS IN CHECKOUT COUNTER

And finally, one with a bit of an engineering theme (to bring this thread back "On Topic"!):

TOWN TO DROP SCHOOL BUS WHEN OVERPASS IS READY

(Don't bother to search for the original sources - I am sure a lot of these are apocryphal, but funny nevertheless. And of those which are genuine, it is interesting to ponder how many were inadvertent constructions due to deadline time pressure, and how many were quite deliberate.)

RE: Classic...Just Classic

One I've heard on the TV lately;

"60% of Queensland is underwater", they mean "60% is affected by flooding" and I'm not sure what that means either.
Perhaps 60% of shires have some form of flooding in their shire?

RE: Classic...Just Classic

apsix,
The latest tectonic movement of the Pacific plate has shifted Australia's position by 0.87 deg, so Queensland slipped under water and lifted the other side by 22.7 m. The real figure is 59.749% under sea. The Seaworld is literally under sea. The wharf in Perth is now dry and the Swan river is flowing backwards.
Cheers,

Is this a joke?

Sorry for the bluntness, but this is drastic, and surprising here.  That's ab out 75 feet on the high side.  Are there any links to news articles to confirm this as it should have made the world news with the possible loss of life and economic impact involved here here too...

RE: Classic...Just Classic

Thanks Julian.  My mid-afternoon siesta was titivated. bigsmile

RE: Classic...Just Classic

"possible loss of life and economic impact involved "

Too right.
As a man on the afore-mentioned Perth wharf said; "it's all downhill from here".

RE: Classic...Just Classic

Mike,

You've got to live in Oz to understand them.

I guess so...

RE: Classic...Just Classic

A lot of the misinformation is due to the press doing its usual thing.  60% of Queensland is not underwater, but perhaps that much has been declared as flood affected.  Most of the flood affected area is in the north.  In the southern part of the state, large areas are still drought declared.  And some areas are both flood affected and drought declared.  Understand?

RE: Classic...Just Classic

And burning up?
Kolas in danger from Oz warming/Tipping/sinking?
Oz Man at fault.
Is this Anthropogenic tectonic movement?

That's what I read in the news too, Hokie.  I guess I fell for it...
