Substation cost

Substation cost

(OP)
Just doing a preliminary budget estimate, I will look this up in my cost data book, but thought I'd like to see if some "real world" numbers will turn out close.  We don't design many of these, so we will be outsourcing the detailed design when we get to that point, but thought that some of you whom do this regularly would have a feel for a rough cost for one of these, (equipment only?-installed cost?).

We have a 34.5kV primary, 480y/277V, secondary, 3.75mVA indoor, oil filled substation with a 500A, secondary bus duct flange section and a primary fused switch.

Any ball park ideas in $US?
Thank you, EEJaime

RE: Substation cost

Need many more details to even throw any number out there. Many, many, more.

RE: Substation cost

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.  winky smile

RE: Substation cost

Ask a vendor/ mfr rep in your are, SQ D, GE, Eaton or the like for equipment cost.

Need more info as to size, type and rating of the breakers.

Plus things like d/o, stationary, manaul or electrically operatred breakers, metering, automation etc.

And what do you mean by the installed cost, just the substation or its feeders etc?

Lot of variables. You will need to provide more info or outline spec to a vendor. For safe estimate add 50%- 70% for the installation "budget" in the eastern USA.

RE: Substation cost

May be I jumped the gun, by substation do you mean just the primary fuse-switch and the transformer?

If so the basic answer gets even better, ask a vendor! Much faster and more accurate.  For installation use Means.

Thank you gentlemen,

After I sent the post, I realized I had not provided sufficient information.  I was not getting responses from my  vendors in a timely manner, but did recieve the data subsequently.

Now that I've gotten the costs from the vendor, I will do the rest of the footwork as well.  Have a pleasant day/evening.

Regards,
EEJaime
