Audio Power Amplifier Class A/B

Hello, Would anyone know any books/sites with good current source design information. Thanks Joe

RE: Audio Power Amplifier Class A/B

Doug Self wrote some excellent articles in the now-defunct Electronics & Wireless World magazine back in the early 90's, much of which is reproduced in a number of books published. In my opinion his analysis was very good, particularly a design series on Class B amplifiers where he looked at the underlying distortion mechanisms and how they can be optimised by careful design.

If you can cope with his dry sense of humour - I find him highly amusing - his web site is http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/ampins/ampins.htm where you can find links to his books. Highly recommended.

Agreed. Doug Self is the best place to start.

RE: Audio Power Amplifier Class A/B

Hey Keith, maybe the ARRL Handbook had an audio amp section at one time, but I just pulled out my 2006 version of that book and didn't find one. There's a section on RF amplifiers, but even before I got older, my hearing range didn't extend quite that far. smile

I wonder if they dropped the audio amp section since it's so easy to find class AB audio amps on a chip, and there are fewer and fewer people doing discrete designs.  One site I read is at http://www.audiodesignline.com/ and it seems like all the new articles on amplifiers are regarding class D amps.

To the OP, do you have some specific design requirements or are you wanting to know about class AB amps for general interest?

geekEE;  Dang.  All mine start at about 199? and go back from there.  They all had something on them.  Thanks for the heads up, (or let down).  LOL
