BOM question

BOM question

BOM question

(OP)
First off we use a excel based BOM.  It seems to work well for us so far.  As I do an assembly I pull in components basically willy nilly.  When I'm done I go back and rearrage components in the feature manager to group similar components together so when I create an order form like components are grouped.

My question is why doesn't my excell BOM follow how I have the components in my feature manager?  It does sort of but some components aren't in the order I put them.  I've looked briefly at SW BOM but due to lazyness I haven't dug to much into it.  Fot the most part the excel BOM works great it just doesn't follow the order I put things in.

Is that just how an excel BOM is going to work?  Is there an option I'm missing or a diff technique?

Thanks

RE: BOM question

This is probably of limited use, but I know in the SW BOM you can right-click the BOM and select 'follow assembly order'.  I don't know if the excel BOM has a similar function available.

That would help.  I will look into using a SW BOM.  One reason we like the excel BOM though is we have a formula to calculate weight from one of our BOM columns (its more or less to double check the mass props).  Can SW BOM do that also?

Thanks
