What ASME standards specifies tubes?
For pipes there is B36.10 for carbon steel pipes and B36.19 for stainless steel pipes. Problem is that I can't find an similar standard for stainless steel tubes.

Also, how should I specify the tubes?
Pipes you specify by NPS + Schedule + material. How does one specify tubes?
- OD x wall + material or
- OD x Schedule + material or
something else? I suspect that Schedule shouldn't be used in conjunction with tubes but would like to have that confirmed.

ASTM A 213, 268, 269, 519, 632, 789, 1016; B 163, 165, 423, 521, 704; F 1387 ...

Specify by length, roll or stick, ASTM number, OD, wall thickness, material, welded or seamless, specials such as electropolished, sulfinert coated, etc.

Thanks, it is A 1016 I am after (I think) because its hydraulic tubes I am concerned with right now (for Swagelok connectors). I had another std quoted for me (A 450) but I noticed that the stainless portion has been deleted between the 04 and 07 editions.

But it is a bit confusing anyway. I have been under the impression that ASTM stds specify the materials/material properties and testing requiremens and ASME specifies the dimensions/dimensional tolerances and usage limitations. But all the stds you quote are ASTM.

Well, its a steep learning curve entering a new field of standards. I will probably be pestering the forum with more newbie questions about US piping issues.

Use ASME standards for pipe and vessels.  ASME publishes the strength, Young's Modulus and such details for selected ASTM specifications suitable for pressure containment.  ASME SB-423 applies to some nickel tubing.  ASME SEC II SA-213 applies to seamless ferritic and austentitic tubes.  ASME C80.3 applies to steel EMT conduit.

ISA RP 42.00.01 applies to the tubing nomenclature.

PIP PCCIPP001 applies to Instrument pping and tubing systems criteria.

I didn't think SA-213 was applicable since it is called "...Boiler, Superheater, and Heat-Exchanger Tubes". But OK, our tube supplier is also refering to A 213. Again thanks!
