Precast Column on Pilaster

Precast Column on Pilaster

I have a precast column that will be connected to a pilaster at the base, I have noticed on drawings for older projects that stirrups are closely spaced in the pilaster 2" from the top and spaced at 3" until about 2' from the top (around the anchor rods.) I am curious why such closely spaced stirrups immediately from the top, and how would you design these?

RE: Precast Column on Pilaster

Clansman - see ACI 318-05, section 7.10.5.6.

Does that answer your question?
