Non-linear analysis of polymers - NEiNASTRAN/ABACUS/ANSYS

Non-linear analysis of polymers - NEiNASTRAN/ABACUS/ANSYS

Hi

I have a requirement for the analysis of a highly flexible polymer which can undergo large deformations(non-linear)..since I am a beginner in using FEA software packages, I would like to know which one of these s/w (NEiNASTRAN/ABACUS/ANSYS) is the best to use?
Any questions welcome...

Thank you.

RE: Non-linear analysis of polymers - NEiNASTRAN/ABACUS/ANSYS

My apologies if I offend but the kind of analysis you anticipate doing should never be attempted by a beginner!

In fact it is irresponsible of your management to expect you to do this work or choose which package to purchase, your safest option is to talk to experienced analysts working for specialised consultancies.

hi John

Thank you for your suggestion but what I meant by beginner is I donot have much experience in non-linear analysis of the FEM packages. But I have done linear analysis before. Anyway I have time to learn non-linear and to practice it, so I got to do this in anyway...

It will be great if you can please advise me which one of these s/w is efficient in carrying out non-linear analysis for large deformations(hyperelastic)? I did some research and learnt that ansys and neinastran are quite capable. i donno much about abacus....

Thank you

I guess the 3 packages can do the job you need, but the real question is cost.

NeiNastran is by far the cheapeat (approx 10k/seat) and Abaqus is by far the most expensive (approx 25k/seat/year!!)

What is you company willing to spend?

Thanks a lot for the info...

Can you also tell me how does the cost of Ansys vary with NeiNastran and Abacus?

I do not have costs for this third company, you should contact a distributor.  Make sure you obtain the cost for ALL MODULES that you need - some companies (like this one) have a way of selling their stuff in modules that keep you coming back for more and more functionality.
