Does anyone know where I can find current costs for specific sections of steel? Thank you very much!

RE: Current Steel Cost

I would call or talk to a local steel fabricator or erector to get an accurate number.

In my area (midwest states, USA), installed steel (raw steel, fabrication and erection) is running about $1,500 a ton, or $0.75/pound on jobs with a sufficeint amount of steel (whole buildings or large additions). This number can vary widely depending on location and the specific job requirements.

RE: Current Steel Cost

$1500/ton for erected steel would be the bargain of the millenium.  Are you sure it's not material only?

We do a lot of steel projects all over the country.  Average prices range from $3000-$4000 for erected steel.

I'm not sure you can get a breakdown of costs for specific sections.  Granted there may be higher costs associated with handling and erection of heavy sections, and tube steel is typically 30-50% more than rolled wide flanges, but I've always seen the estimates by the ton.

Calling any fabricator would get you a quick answer for your specific area, however.

Have you tried RSMeans website?
