Studies Question

Studies Question

(OP)
I need a little enlightment here if possible. On a new project we have in house I am being asked to perform some new studies I have never done before. This is for a high voltage substation. We are used to doing ground grid studies, bus designs, lightning protection and the such. The studies I need info on are insulation coordination, EMF study, noise, corona and RFI. We do a kind of insulation coordination when we do our bus designs taking into account BIL levels, fault current levels and voltage levels. Any help would be appreciated. I am not asking anyone to do them for me. Just info on what they are and normal means of doing one should it be software or other. Thanks.

RE: Studies Question

You need to subcontract that work out.  These are not really something to try to learn from scratch without detailed guidance, and by the time you buy all the software needed and learn to use it, you will probably be time and money ahead to have someone else do it.

I appreciate that. However, these are something we are starting to see more off in our jobs. I am a PE and have more on staff that work for me. We need to learn how to do these. So, I am interested in information on exactly what one entails so I can go forward with adding this ability to our company.
