Can API 579 be used to evaluate stresses with API 560?

(OP)
Hello,

I'm doing FEA stress calculation for supports with API 560 and we are applying ASME VIII div 2 to have a correct stress evaluation (membrane stress, peak and so on). However I have read that API 579 gives guidelines to do this. Does anyone know which is the code to evaluate stresses to complete API 560? Can ASME VIII div2 be used for?

Thanks folks
Francisco Quesada

Yes you can provided the heater is existing and has been in service. We have utilized API 579 while evaluating and replacing some HK 40 supports in a Reformer furnace as well as for the stack evaluation.

Highly recommend someone that has performed level II or III evaluations is involved.

Hetairoi,
As APT123 has indicated API579 is a post construction Code for performing FFS assessments. It is not a Design  Code.
