Linking pin numbers to text?

Linking pin numbers to text?

Linking pin numbers to text?

(OP)
How can I link the pin number of a component, to show in text what the pins number is? A shape for an electrical component has a pin number, I am trying to either show that number or have that number show up as text.  Can anyone help?

RE: Linking pin numbers to text?

Where is Visio going to get this information from?

Is it a custom property?
Do you want to link to a text file?
Does it come from the template file itself?

The pin number I am looking at, is the number that is assigned to a components’ pin in the symbol (shape), for example a relay. I would like to link the pin to the text that is placed next to the shape to show what that pin is.  If I could just turn on the visibility of all pins would be enough.  I did not know that Visio shapes had custom properties.  I will have to look into this.
Thank you,

Bradley

RE: Linking pin numbers to text?

Here's what I think you want to do:

First Highlight what you want to identify - Right click - format special.

Add any info you want here in addition to the symbol's root information.

Double click into the text area (til all the text area turns blue) and right click - insert field.

Choose Object info and use any of the fields defined in insert special.

Hope this helps....

Thanks for your help.
Your method did open up some nice doors.  As you can tell I am just starting to learn Visio.  I am into my second week now.  Your method worked on a switch just like you said. I tried it on a shape that I got off the EE – Analog and Digital Logic stencil called Flip-flops.  I changed the master to add pins 1 and 2, but could not change the text once the symbol was placed onto a drawing.  You will notice that the Flip-flops have no pin numbers.  It’s those pin numbers that I am trying to show.
