sampling along an alignment

sampling along an alignment

sampling along an alignment

(OP)
this is what i intend to do:
i will have a bunch of adjacent hatches, and i will have the alignment on top of it(see attached picture). what i want to do is to make the alignment line sample from the hatch below and tell me from which station to which station, its color green, blue, pink etc, or even return me the layer names instead of the color names. hoping this is not too much to ask for, anybody has any ideas you would like to share? something similar to what civil 3D or LDD does along the lines of sampling along a cross section line from a surface, only in this case, i want it to sample the hatch attribute instead of the elevation. i would really appreciate any suggestions.
