silicone rubber sheet dynamic bend radius at 400F
silicone rubber sheet dynamic bend radius at 400F
(OP)
We are looking at thicknesses from 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch for various reasons. Possibly with fiberglass reinforcement at mid-sheet. It's for a slow moving flap valve in a gravity fed return pipe. Coal dust one side, hot air on the other side. The top edge of the sheet is clamped so the first 20 or 3 inches acts as the hinge.

Coal dust is abrasive; silicone rubber is not that abrasion resistant and can't be compounded for that to any great degree.

re: abrasion resistance - If we do this right, the rubber hinge will not be subjected to the gravity fed pulverized coal.
re:re: abrasion resistance - Coal dust is funny stuff. RTV reportedly has shown pretty good "wear" resistance in a device like this - http://www.emkayenggworks.com/pulver2.jpg
My application is different.
For now the big questions will be -
- what is an acceptable repetitive bending stress operating at 300F or higher
- what is the required shape of a stop-plate/strain-relief to enforce a low stress shape - kind of like this
