Graphics card or RAM?
Graphics card or RAM?
(OP)
Ok.... I'm just the manager, not the user (anymore)
A couple of guys are running SW09 SP2, 2GB RAM
Is 2 GB just plain insufficient for SW09?
They are getting weird graphical stuff. Dim are disappearing when you click them. (YOu can tell they are still there, but you just can't see them).
Also, the toolbars will turn into long black lines aross the screen when you rotate the model.
I don't know he graphics card model offhand, but I KNOW for a fact that they are "approved" on the SWx website. They are pretty decent Dell workstations.....(running on XP SP3, 32 bit)
Thanks.

RE: Graphics card or RAM?
The guy with the Fire GL is having more trouble that nVidia (no shock there)
RE: Graphics card or RAM?
What type of models are being opened? Large assemblies, single parts, prismatic, surfaced? There might be a clue here.
It probably wouldn't hurt to have more memory, but there is a "3gb switch" that you have to enable. 2gb of memory can be sufficient for most work, it really depends on the type of models you are working with.

RE: Graphics card or RAM?
A new card has been ordered to replace the ATI as it was suspected that it was defective. But then nVidia guy started having issues. So now I'm not sure.
I've emailed out IT guy to find out what drivers he installed. Because yes, in a former life when I was doing all my own installs, I would always get my drivers from the SWx site.
RE: Graphics card or RAM?
Whatever it's worth, I use an ATI FireGL V5600 and it seems to push v2009 just fine. Make sure you're using the drivers recommended at the SW site--might need to update them.

RE: Graphics card or RAM?
More RAM plus the /3GB switch wouldn't hurt.
Also try to find out how the SW09 upgrade was performed.
i.e.
Separate install or update of SW08?
Complete clean install or usual 'half-fast' effort?
Anti-virus off?
RE: Graphics card or RAM?
I found out he latest drviers were causing problems, PC locking up. I rolled back to the previous drivers used on SW2008 and no more problems.
Not sure if this will help, worth a try.

RE: Graphics card or RAM?
I was having real graphical problems with 2009 sp1 but when I switched to sp2 life got much better.
