PLC Data Logging / GPS

PLC Data Logging / GPS

PLC Data Logging / GPS

(OP)
First - I want to put a PLC on a truck to monitor our equipment - 2 temps, speed, vacuum levels. So the application is 12V and mobile - no PC available. I want to log this data. Is it possible to get the data off of the PLC without PLC software. For instance can we record the data to a SImcard or USB key?

Second - Are PLCs GPS capable? Can I interface a GPS with a PLC?

I have no purchased a PLC yet but am versed in Ladder logic so I would like it to ladder programmable or similar.

Thanks in advance

Also what is excitation when it refers to sensors?

RE: PLC Data Logging / GPS

PLCs can come with GSM unit which will send information via a sim card.
These would normally be used to send out alarms eg if the temp got too high/low then a text or email would be sent to the address list.
If you are looking for something that logs and sends data then this site may help it was posted on another thread.
