Coldbox Washing-Aliminum acid wash

(OP)
We have a coldbox - Aluminum material, for the application of natural gas treating.  The coldbox is experiencing fouling and in need of cleaning.  Because of the Aluminum construction, I'd like to understand if there is any special solvent can be used.

Thanks,

RE: Coldbox Washing-Aliminum acid wash

If the soil is amenable to it any cleaner that is used for cleaning Asphalt equipment and is compatible with Aluminum should do the job. After the box is cleaned, again if the process is amendable I would coat the surface with an Asphalt Release Agent prior to putting it back in service.

I've never known one to require a mineral acid cleaner but if one is required again compatibility with Aluminum is the main concern.

Basic cleaners that specifically inhibited for use with Aluminum are available if required.

Just be careful in cleaning any Aluminum tank/vessel as the conditions are right to generate a explosive gas mixture in the equipment.
