Grammar in Queen's Country

Grammar in Queen's Country

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

I am sure this was all decided over a nice kipper tie.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

And I see that the AP has decided that Her Majesty is no longer worthy of being capitolized.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

Dropping the apostrophe - basically it for those who are confused about possessions! - You know, you don't want anyone to feel embarrassed. I wonder how Mr. Mullaney would feel if someone referred to his wife as Mullaneys wife.  Mmmmm

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

All part of the general dumbing down of society. An uneducated populace is much easier to control.

cheers

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

Still at least they are not changing all the street signs to say Berminggum. Well not yet at least.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

The poor apostrophe.  Last week I watched a subtitled movie for which not only did the subtitler have a pretty poor command of the original language (there were some mistranslations based on obvious mishearings), but there was not a single apostrophe to be found.  I half expected to start reading txtspeek.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

I do recommend the book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" for your young children.  The book does a great job of teaching the importance of those little squiggles...

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

"Eats, Shoots and Leaves" is a very good book for any age group to read - it's not just for children.  One problem with this though is that the sections of the British population that should read it probably haven't had the education to be able to read it, let alone understand it.

I'll get my coat.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

"Eats, Shoots and Leaves" is remeniscent of the punch line to an old "off-color" Koala joke.  I'll have to look up that book.

RE: Grammar in Queen's Country

There are probably several versions with various cuddly indiginous wildlife protagonists.
