What is the Dmin in Seismic Design Manual
What is the Dmin in Seismic Design Manual
(OP)
On page 4-21 of the Seismic Design Manual, there is a calc for the variable Dmin. The book reads as follows: "The minimum required single-sided fillet weld size is,
Dmin=Ru/1.392kips/in(lw)=.784
Could someone tell me what this unitless value represents.
Thanks in advance

RE: What is the Dmin in Seismic Design Manual
"Dmin" denotes the number of 1/16 inch in weld size. In other words, if Dmin = 2.56, then this means your minimum weld size to fully develop load "Ru" is 2.56/16, or rounding up, 3/16. Or if Dmin = 10.45, then your minimum weld size required is 10.45/16, which is equal to .65 in decimal form. And rounding this up to the next available weld size = .75 or a 3/4 weld.
