Acceptance Testing on 33/11 Transformer
Acceptance Testing on 33/11 Transformer
(OP)
Hi all, im looking for some information on acceptance testing of a 33/11 15MVA transformer. Most of all im looking for the IEC testing standard for this work and what tests other people carry out.
Thanks Heaps

RE: Acceptance Testing on 33/11 Transformer
IEC 60076-1 is the IEC standard for testing of power transformers. It states the type and routine tests required in the factory.
My assumption is that you are talking about testing of your transformer on site prior to commissioning. If this is the case, then you can reasonably do a cut down set of tests that were performed in the factory.
A list of tests that we perform are:
insulation resistance
induced voltage test
applied voltage test
ratio
winding resistance
frequency response
partial discharge and power factor of bushings (if >33kV)
full suite of oil tests prior to commissioning
This list is by no means exhaustive, however we find that these tests give us confidence that the transformer was delivery to site in good condition, is ready for service, and we have a good set of benchmark figure for down the track if there is a failure or if we are concerned about the number of through faults the transformer has seen.
Other companies may also perform:
leakage reactance
power factor measurements on the winding insulation
polarisation/depolarisation current measurement *
recovery voltage measurement *
frequency domain spectroscopy measurements *
infra-red scan of the transformer and bushing connections after commissioning
* these 3 measurement techniques provide an indication of the quality of the insulation, and how much moisture is in the windings. we use this down the track, as we have the assumption (backed up by oil tests for moisture content) that the insulation is dry for a start, so we would be getting an almost perfect curve).
