Export FEM to Abaqus (.abq) or Ansys (.ans)

Export FEM to Abaqus (.abq) or Ansys (.ans)

Export FEM to Abaqus (.abq) or Ansys (.ans)

Is there any way to make a fem in NX 6 and export it to an ascii file in either abaqus or ansys format? (so that I might import it into another program)

thanks!

RE: Export FEM to Abaqus (.abq) or Ansys (.ans)

When you create a Finite Element Model (FEM) based on an existing NX model the system will ask you to select a template and you will be offered a set of target solutions, including, but not limited to, ANSYS and ABAQUS.  After selecting the appropriate template, your NX model will be imported into the new FEM model file.  After defining the desired material and creating your mesh you can then go to...

File -> Export - Simulation

...assign a file name and destination folder, modify the various output options and hit OK.  An 'input' file will then be created containing the Finite Element Model data in the proper format based on the template which you had selected at the start of this process.

Note that you can always go back and make changes to either the NX model or the FEM file and 'Export' a new solver input 'deck' whenever you wish.

In the same vein, is it possible to convert a NX *.fem made with a template for a particular solver (say, NX NASTRAN), into a *.fem file for a different solver (say, MSC NASTRAN)?

RE: Export FEM to Abaqus (.abq) or Ansys (.ans)

Yes, just go to the Simulation Navigator, select the first item, which is the .fem model, press MB3 and select the 'Edit...' option.  When the dialog comes up, you can change the Default Solver 'Language' and as long as the elements and property data are compatible between the two solvers, the data will be reformatted automatically.

that's great, thanks for the tip.

You can also export a Nastran deck (Bulk data file, *.dat) from NX and import it in Abaqus...works flawless :))
