Is A182 XM-19 as good or better than A276 XM-21 for pump shaft material?

What is your definition of good or better than? Higher strength, increased ductility, increased fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, fracture toughness and..... you get the idea?

First off, what type of pump shaft and what are the operating conditions (load) and environment?

This is a large pump shaft with high temp/pressure conditions.

Let's also drop the XM tags, ASTM screwed up trying their own numbering system.

XM-19, Nironic 50, S20910
XM-21, 304N, S30452

The S20910 material will have better corrosion resistance.  They can be cold worked to similar strength levels.
I would guess that the 20910 will have better toughness/fatigue for a given strength.
