Hi everybody,

I'm facing an issue in motors where some Copper parts have become "Pink"....But a real bright Pink. Have any of you ever faced this kind of problem?Would you know what could be the cause (Heat(doubt it even if the motor is fairly hor never seen that before)?Corrosion?Pollution??).
Thank you very much for your help!!!

RE: "Pink" Copper in engines

Are you talking about electric motors or mechanical engines? The title and your post are somewhat contradictory.

RE: "Pink" Copper in engines

Copper becomes pink when the surface polish is removed and the grain or crystal structure is exposed at the surface. Acid etching will cause it as will oxidizing the surface with high heat and then exposing it to a reducing atmoshere.

Thank you both for your answer.
@ScottyUk: I'm actually talking about electric motors!You're right, it's just a translation problem I guess ;-)

RE: "Pink" Copper in engines

What kind of motor - if the bright pink copper is the commutator of a DC machine then it is in big trouble. Any chance of a photo of the motor and / or the affected area??
