Camber Length Minimum

Camber Length Minimum

Camber Length Minimum

(OP)
I have always used a 30 foot minimum on beam length in order to specify any camber.  I believe this requirement appeared in the Manual of Standard Practice in the 9th edition.

I cannot find a length minimum in the new 13th Edition specification or Code of Standard Practice.  Does anyone know where I can find a value on minimum beam length due to fabrication limitations and what the specifics are concerning the equipment used to camber the beam?

RE: Camber Length Minimum

I've always heard that 25' was the hard minimum just because shorter beams won't fit into the machine.  I know I've cambered more 28' and 29' beams than I'll ever remember, so I don't think 30' is a magic number.

RE: Camber Length Minimum

It is now in the DSC (which is "Detailing for Steel Construction").  The minimum length varies by beam depth.  There are also minimum cambers based on beam depth.  I don't remember if there are minimum cambers based on different lengths.
