Parking Garage Live Load #2

Parking Garage Live Load #2

Parking Garage Live Load #2

(OP)

I know that few days ago "gmf" was asking the similar question...but mine is slightly different. I'm also wondering about fire load on upper level underground parking garage (fire trucks, equipment, fire fighters, etc. on area outside the building). We know that fire vehicles have special routes where they can drive. So, which load do you apply in the design fire case  on this routes? Do you apply uniform load on the whole fire route, partial area or you are working with point loads and envelopes, like on bridges? What about outside the fire vehicles routes? Do you also apply uniform load on these areas? What its magnitude?
I'm using Eurocode and I can't find guidance for such case?

Any help or comment is highly appreciated regardless which Code you use!

RE: Parking Garage Live Load #2

I'm not sure about your requirement for fire trucks.  Most building parkades have a headroom of 7' or some have a code minimum of 6'-6 depending on the jurisdiction.

RE: Parking Garage Live Load #2

i have designed a motorcourt of the building where firetruck load was to be considered.i have taken loading of fire truck equivalent to HS 20-44,applying it on various positions and picking up the governing case for design.its just judgment.
In one case,i have seen others using 300psf uniform loading on fire truck route.

RE: Parking Garage Live Load #2

In the past I have contacted the local fire department and gotten the loads of the largest aparatus that is in use and designed with those loads.

refer thread507-27824: Fire Truck Loading.
lotta discussion on fire truck loading.
ended up using HS-20 truck loading.for your own satisfaction, you can always contact local manufacturer to compare loads.
