baptistry construction

(OP)
I have a design for a baptistry..the construction is approx 2m*2m*sq.by 1m high..the walls are to be 2 skins of 100mm blockwork with a 80mm cavity to be filled with concrete,my question is does anyone think we need to drill & fix vertical re bars into the existing floor between the 2 skins of blockwork ? The construction has to retain approx 3cubic m of water.I'm convinced the structre is good ,my main worry is will it slip??The truth is I'm just a christian builder who is picking your brains..god bless you all

RE: baptistry construction

If I were building this, I would use 290 mm blocks instead of the two skins of 100 block with concrete in the cavity.  Reinforce the bottom, third, and top course with 12 mm reinforcing bars centrally placed, with corner bars, and fill the blocks with concrete.  Use a good sheet membrane system for waterproofing.  No need to dowel to the floor.

RE: baptistry construction

Have you considered building an octgonl-shaped baptistry?  It has nothing to do with structural adequacy; I was thinking of the symbolism.

RE: baptistry construction

Or, buy a hot tub?

RE: baptistry construction

That's a good idea.  I think there are companies who provide precast items for use in churches.  Just a piece of furniture.  Probably nicer than anything you can build out of blockwork.
