DX Vs CHilled Water CRACS

DX Vs CHilled Water CRACS

(OP)
Hello

Can anyone help

I'm trying to find some high level information regarding comparison between Chilled Water and DX system cooling cabinets for a computer room
For examples comparison of costs
Required downtime for maintenance
What type is more efficient in terms of heat removal
What is the preffered type

Or if you knwo of a website where i can find this information

Much Appreciated

Thanks

RE: DX Vs CHilled Water CRACS

HVAC/R Engineering forum would probably have been a better option.

DX is generally a lot less efficient than CHW, particularly as you increase in scale.
CHW is generally more expensive to build new than DX, the whole system that is.
CHW is usually a single coil, DX is usually a dual system (redundancy).
CHW will spill and need containment if it does, DX will evaporate.
DX are expensive floor units, CHW is expensive plant and cheaper floor units.
General Maintenance is probably a wash, but long term, the DX cracs will need compressors replaced.
Preference is in the eye of the beholder.
If you have CHW available, then use it.

I hate to give out rules of thumb, but somewhere around 300 ton, I would be doing a cost analysis on a new build to choose.
