How do I turn off Instant 3D in v2008?
How do I turn off Instant 3D in v2008?
(OP)
This seems to be a problem when I want to quickly check the dimensions of a sketch upstream. Double-clicking used to yield the dimensions of the sketch--now it edits the sketch. Huge waste of time for rebuilding. Apparently the problem is Instant 3D, but I've not seen anything under Help to find and kill this bug feature. How do I disable it?

Go to the Customize Keyboard Shortcuts and search for Instant3D. This will allow you to see the icon you are looking for. It is on the Other toolbar.
Should be the last icon on the right in the command manager tabs. Ruler with a little blue arrow.

I've also noticed clicks for mate types is often ignored. In v2007 I really didn't have to watch whether the mate was recognized or not--click and go. In v2008 about 30% of my mate type selections are totally ignored--so I have to babysit this area and every once in a while I must actually click Coincident (or whatever) three times to get it to register.
No wonder everyone complained about this release so much. And I've got the advantage of starting at SP5!

Are you changing video drivers when working with the different versions?
Has the Desktop Search/Indexing been restarted by installing SW08?

MadMango, I use a Logitech wireless keyboard, and it did fine with v2007. I'm thinking it's the fade-in effect for the pop-up menu causing the slow-down. Since my last reply I think I had this problem happen another five times. Nice. I'm hoping this isn't an issue with v2009, since that would definitely not qualify as "65% faster".

I turned it off in the Features toolbar.
A star for you.
And then like Eltron, (a star for the idea) I put it on my "S" key shortcut bar.

A quick way to switch between command manager tabs is to hover over any area of the manager and roll your mouse wheel up or down.
Some times the Instant 3D helps sometimes it hurts Link Dimensions for example. Anyone that says it should always be left on is severely mistaken or doesn't use any of the functions that it can hurt.
Instant3D allows a Cut feature to be changed to a Solid or vice versa which is a lot easier than deleting the cut and creating a new feature. When linking dimensions you can select the extension lines instead of the value to prevent Instant3D from prompting for new value.

Now that is way cool. I would have never thought of that is a million years. A star for you.

Sure it's a neat trick, but how often does anyone have need to change a cut to an extrude?
"When linking dimensions you can select the extension lines instead of the value to prevent Instant3D from prompting for new value."
That can be done without Instant 3D.
IMO, the problems Instant 3D created/creates far outweigh the little (if any) real benefits it brings.
