Okay i can make dim styles no problems, its the parameters I need halp with.

I want to make a bunch of different scale dim styles.  does anyone know what the std parameters are for mechanical dim styles.

thanks in advance.  also if im doing it wrong please let me know, i havent used acad in a while, im all solidworks but i need to make a template file.

Hi uGlay,

Best bet is just to use the dimension style dialog box, but you can also type "SETVAR" at the command line and when asked for which parameter, type the question mark "?", and then when asked variables to list, type "DIM*" (you don't need the quotes). It will then spit out a list of variables and their values.  Cross reference the list with the help file which will explain what they control.

you should be able to make just one style and adjust your dimscale variable to match the plot scale you are using. that should "scale" the dimensions properly

Let me clarify a bit more what I will be doing.  I will be importing data from solidworks, data will come in at 1:1.  And will stay at 1:1.

Data will need to be displayed on paperspace, and this is why I need different dimension styles.  One view might display at 1:1, another might display at 1:16.

TCARPENTER: I dont have the parameters for the dimensions.  The help file does not have the scale parameters.

CVG: I cannot make just one style as there will be different viewports displaying dimensions at different scales.

My apologies for the lack of data in the first post.  This is more of a mechanical/fabrication question.

I'm not sure what you mean by "parameters".  If I understand your last post, everything will displayed in paper space, and dimensioned in paper space? or will it be dimensioned in model space?  If that's the case, check the options for DIMLFAC, and DIMSCALE in this case is just set to one.

"CVG: I cannot make just one style as there will be different viewports displaying dimensions at different scales."

Set the demension style to "scale dimensions to layout" and your above comment is not an issue.

okay ive been doing some reading and apparently there are a slew of options, including the one i want to do.

Ludpeka: I would have to put all my dimensions in model space or paper space?

uGlay

You put your dimensions, mtext, qleader text in model space working from paper space (layout tab) through an active viewport.

If you also set your dimensions to be associative, you can put all of you dimensions in paper space. You need to make sure that you're "snapping" your dimensions to real points.

You can have a combination of model and paper space text, if you wanted to, and still use just one dimension style.

To set your dimensions to be associative:
Right click and pick options go to the User Preference tab and check the "Make new dimensions associative" box.
