Associate Views

Hiya,

Working in Drafting on UG NX4 4.0.4.2, and I was wondering if there is a way of associating two views, so that if one moves so does the other.

I know you can select both views before dragging, but I'd like to have some sort of permanent link between them.

Might be a stupid question, but thanks for any sensible response.

Cheers

Papa

RE: Associate Views

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers, which in this case happens to also be reality, that is NO there is no way to "have some sort of permanent link between" views on a Drawing.

RE: Associate Views

You can submit one if you wish, but I wouldn't hold my breath as this would require an extra level of complexity be added to a drawing so as to record which views were the parents, which were the children and of the children which ones do you wish to move when the parent moves and then there would have to be mechanism in place to break these relationships either explicitly or when a parent view was deleted as well as a means to add views if new ones were created.  And think about the hierarchy that this would create, where view A might be the parent of View B but at the same time I could make view B the parent of view C.  Now when I move view B only view C would move, but when I move view A then BOTH view B and view C would have to move as well, and keeping track of these relationships as well as having checks to make sure that there are no circular relationships (A -> B -> C -> A), would add a lot of unneeded complexity.

No, I think we should just keep it simple, if you want to move two views and have them maintain their relationship, just pick both views and move them.  If you wish to do that with 3 views, you just pick the 3 views...

RE: Associate Views

If anything the views work just fine as they are there seem to be enough snap to positions to cater for most needs, and as with anything associativity implies an extra layer of overheads not just to the software but to the user as well.

Thanks gents, much appreciated.

I understand what you mean JohnTBaker, it would make things a little more complicated than necessary, especially when there is a perfectly good way of doing it. One of the guys in the office asked me, and I thought it might have been possible.

He'll just have to remember to pick all the views he needs to move, which isn't too much to ask.

Cheers again

Papa
