Masonry Shear Wall Section Modulus
Masonry Shear Wall Section Modulus
(OP)
Can anyone direct me to a quick and dirty way to calculate and/or reference the section modulus (or moment of inertia) of a masonry wall not fully grouted (say 32" o.c.) for in plane bending.....?

For 8" masonry with cells grouted at 32" c/c the EST would be 4.9". I got this value from the Reinforced masonry Engineering Handbook by James Amrhein

The suggestion of Jim Amrhein's book is very good for an analytical approach. Unfortunately, Jim died several years ago, but his great work is sound from a professional and practical standpoint, but some codes and ACI 530 have made a few changes.
The NCMA TEK Notes are very sound and are written by very kowledgable professional enginers (educated by Jim Amrhein's books), but participation on all of the major national and international code and materials stadards (ASTM, ACI, TMS, etc.).
Go to the NCMA for current interpretations, but do not ignore Jim Amrhein's insight into the industry.
