Double Phase Transmission Line Tap

Double Phase Transmission Line Tap

Double Phase Transmission Line Tap

(OP)
Are there any standards avaliable for a double phase opposite side transmission line tap?  The line to tap into has 230 and 138kv lines on it and the tap is onto the 138kv line.  The problem is that the 138kv line is on the opposite side of where the tap line is coming in from.  Therefore it is very difficult to tap onto that line without using an ugly multi-pole configuration to get that 138kv tap line under the other lines.

RE: Double Phase Transmission Line Tap

Sounds like a nice place for a switching station.  Tapping a double-circuit 138 kV line that shares a pole with a 230 kV line is messy.

At a minimum, I'd drop the 138 kV down to its own poles, install the appropriate disconnect switches, tap the line and then return to the existing pole line. You may want to add some dead ends so you can get the 230 kV line away from the 138 kV line a bit.  This will somewhat depend on your ROW limitations.

RE: Double Phase Transmission Line Tap

You probally want switches there anyway. So a multi-pole arrangment isen't that bad.
