JAE,

You really love the supertall buildings. Is the burj still the tallest under construction, because I see new proposals everyweek that seem to fizzle out.

As a structural engineer, I'm just curious/interested in the extreme structures out there.  High-rise buildings are just one of a number of structural types that seem to push the limits of our abilities and our materials.

I recall a lecture by TY Lin some years ago where he was suggesting other high-limit bridge projects such as spanning the Strait of Gibraltar with a mile long spannng bridge...or a bridge across the Bering Strait connecting Russia with Alaska.

These very-tall buildings do seem to keep popping up and I'm amazed at the structural effort that I imagine would be required...also amazed that anyone would want to work inside such beasts.
