I am designing a search facility that basically consists of steel framing. Wondering what deflection limits I need to use to design my lateral system. I am providing momonent connections at beam column joints and pinning the columns at the base.

I use L/180 for refinery structures, buildings need tighter limits unless it is a pre-engineered metal building.

Look at AISC's Design Guide 3. It provides some guidance. It's free to download if you are an AISC member.

L/120 for agricultural structures, unoccupied pole buildings.
