Septic tank

Septic tank

Septic tank

(OP)
Can we construct a septic tank with an arrangement that all the sewage disposal drops into the septic tank through inlet pipe. There is no out let arrangement, rather its bed has been made porous with an intention that soft soil below will keep sucking the effluent. Is this practice acceptable or violation of prevailing codes. Thanks

RE: Septic tank

You will need to examine the codes in effect in the location you plan to install the septic tank.  My guess is that the design you describe will be prohibited. It sounds like an old fashioned cesspool or pit privy which does not provide much treatment of the wastewater but rather just disposes of it.  The potential for contamination of ground water and surface water is increased dramatically also.  A better design would be to connect the outlet pipe and discharge the clarified effluent to a shallow drainfield. Not much more expensive but a whole lot more responsible.

RE: Septic tank

As tkall suggested, this would not be acceptable.

The septic tank functions to retain non-biodegradable materials and floating solids, thus preventing this materials from fouling and plugging the infiltration laterals.
