SA-212 Grade B Mechanical Properties from 1965 Section VIII

SA-212 Grade B Mechanical Properties from 1965 Section VIII

SA-212 Grade B Mechanical Properties from 1965 Section VIII

(OP)
I have seen posted here values of the allowable stress vs. temperature for SA-212 Grade B - here, here, and here

However, I would really appreciate it if those who have access to the 1965 Edition of Section VIII would also post the values of the Yield and Ultimate Stresses as a function of temperature.

RE: SA-212 Grade B Mechanical Properties from 1965 Section VIII

The code is only going to give you the allowables vs temperature and a min spec tensile.
Is this what you want?

Thanks unclesyd.  I realized a little late that I am accustomed to the current Section II, Part D providing that information.  What I understand now is that prior to ~1995 the Code did not publish that information.  Am I correct?

I am performing a FFS evaluation of a circa 1965 vessel, and was hoping to use the yield and ultimate vs. temperature data from that time.

TGS4;
I have not seen this type of mechanical property data published in earlier editions of the ASME B&PV Code. For this material I would use the stress line (allowable) published in 1965 and back calculate the UTS based on approximations using a SF of 4. Typically for time independent service, the UTS/4 would govern the allowable stress. For the YS determination, I would graph the UTS/temp and use the same slope to construct the YS/temp curve starting with the published min YS at RT.

Thanks metengr, that's where I was headed.  Thankfully, I am still in the time independent properties temperature range <650°F.

RE: SA-212 Grade B Mechanical Properties from 1965 Section VIII

If that is so why not just use 62.5% of the allowable tensile as the yield.

TGS4,
I suggest that you use the current ASME II to look up the Yield and Tensile strength values at elevated temperatures of interest using SA516-Grade 70.  They should be pretty much the same as SA212-Grade B.

I was going to compare the values that I got from doing what metengr and unclesyd recommended to SA-515 Grade 70.  Thanks.
