Tangent Edge Visibility

Tangent Edge Visibility

Tangent Edge Visibility

(OP)
On drawings is there a preferred or standard for tangent edge visibility on drawings.  Me personally I try to omit tangent edges (especially when they are solid lines) because I think they can add confusion to drawing interpretation and when I find it necessary will put the tangent edges in as phantom lines.  If this is covered by a standard please quote standard.  Thanks in advance.

RE: Tangent Edge Visibility

Take a look at ASME Y14.2M-1992 which I don't have to hand, I flicked thru Y14.3-2003 but didn't see it though at least some examples seem to show tangent line as some kinf of chain line.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of FAQ731-376: Eng-Tips.com Forum Policies recently, or taken a look at posting policies: http://eng-tips.com/market.cfm?

RE: Tangent Edge Visibility

Check paragraph 2.11(d) Phantom Lines and Fig. 12 in ASME Y14.2m-1992 (reaffirmed 2003).  Phantom lines are used to indicate filleted and rounded corners.  I agree that they should be avoided unless they add clarity to the drawing.
