The screw threads of a ~5.5 inch diameter tie rod were made as V threads, when 6 mm pitch trapezoidal threads were required. The threaded portion is about 7.5 inches long, so there are over 30 complete thread revolutions to weld on both flanks. maybe 1000 linear inches of welding.
Adding ~ 1 mm to each face would allow re-machining the threads to the correct form
Opinions vary whether a spray welding process could produce a strong (enough) bond or real fusion.
Some fear that TIG welding would induce significant distortion
of the main shaft.

What are the materials?
What are the loads seen by the threads?

Turn it down to the next smaller size and thread that.
Turn it down, figure out some adequately strong way to attach a sleeve and re-thread.
Turn it down two sizes and thread. Install a thread adapter sleeve.
Whack the end off and splice on a new end and thread.
Throw the whole thing out and start again.
