Wrapping carbon Fiber around bent tubing?
Wrapping carbon Fiber around bent tubing?
(OP)
I want to wrap carbon fiber around a round tube of some kind
in the shape of a boomerang. The tube diameter would be 2"
diameter and the length would be around 4'long with a peak
of around 18". I'm curious if the carbon fiber would be
strong at elbow or would it be really weak. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Wrapping carbon Fiber around bent tubing?
One point to take note is that it is difficult to wind around the bend and at the same time making sure that the fibers cover all areas of the bend. I suggest you experiment with the bandwidth of the fiber first and also the angle of winding so as to ensure uniform winding pattern at the bend. Also at all time apply sufficient tension to the fibers.
I would suggest you mount the "boomerang" tooling on a rotating fixture so that you can fully concentrate on handling the fibers.
