DZ 3106 Liquid retaining structures

DZ 3106 Liquid retaining structures

DZ 3106 Liquid retaining structures

(OP)
Has anyone looked at the draft NZ code for concrete liquid retaining structures?

My comments and comparison to AS 3735

1. It would appear that AS 3735 corresponds roughly to a Tightness Class 1 structure under DZ 3106 with a mean crack width of 0.15m. Because limiting crack width is a function of hD/t in DZ 3106 5.1, the reinforcement requirements are likely to be higher for larger tanks; hD/t >12.5.

2. Equations should be provided for all curves in graphs to facilitate design office development of design aids.

3. DZ 3106 omits requirements for concrete contained in AS 3735 4.3.

4. DZ 3106 includes requirements for seismic design compatible with NZ codes. No such requirements are included in AS 3735

5. The detail of calculation is such as to discourage hand calculation, although DZ 3106 Table 4 & 5 summarise results of calculations detailed in App B.
