Darn it I have created a complex part that is backwards in SW2006.
SW2008 is in the post to me now, but I can't go to 2009 until the rest of my corporate group does (I'll be running 2008 until at least the middle of this year).

I know there is a recent tool that mirrors a component and makes a copy complete with history tree so nobody would know I made this mistake. However it seems it is not in 2006.
Is it in 2008? in which case I will do this reversal when my upgrade arrives. Hope it didn't come in with 2009 or I may as well go through my whole part and make an opposite hand and delete the original!

I just called support.
This mirror part thing just creates a copy and places a mirror component at the end. It does nothing that copying the file and placing the mirror at the end doesn't do.
So during the demo I had a specific conversation about how the new reversed part would be like new and nobody would know you made a mistake and got it backwards - but the salesman has completely misled me on that, but hey its a demo before the sale so of course the software does everything exactly how you want doesn't it?!
Once you paid the $$$ then you get the truth - lying toe rags!

RE: opposite hand component

You didn't make a mistake, you were just thinking ahead of yourself.  If you mirror your component at the part level then use the delete body feature and save it as a different configuration you will have a left- and right-handed version of your part.  Just tell everyone you thought that you'd get it out of the way just in case there needed to be two versions of the part.

RE: opposite hand component

Astute users will find your mistake.  Sounds like a lot of work to hide your shame.

I have no shame. I will not remodel the part.
it will have the mirror at the end.
It was just the demo/sales guy gave me the wrong impression so I was thinking when I get the new discs I could just click and correct it :)

RE: opposite hand component

If you Insert -> Mirror Part and check the "Break link to original part" you will get a part with its own feature tree, however the sketches and such are still defined in the original orientation.
