NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

(OP)
NX6.0.1.5 MP1

I'd like to be able to have a Note snap-aligned in both the horizontal and vertical directions (ie to two other notes).  I can only seem to get the note to "rubber-band" in one direction at a time.

Is there a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?  Or is one stuck "getting it close" by eye?

Incidentally what I'm actually trying to do is to set up default text in a drawing template, so I'm trying to get text aligned in the boxes on the drawing.

RE: NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

While it is true that you can't have BOTH a Horizontal AND a Vertical alignment in effect at once, you can use the 'Offset Character' Origin Tool option allowing you to enter X and Y Offset values to define an Associative relationship which can be easily edited (once defined) so as to define a precise alignment.

RE: NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

For a drawing template what I do to align the text with the center of the box in the title block, is construct a line to the corners of the box and then move that text to the centerpoint of that line then delete that line.

rmc text > origin > point constructor (right icon)  > change lightening bolt to control point

The alignment position of the text is very important. For most places on the title block I use "middle center" so that the text stays centered in that box when it grows or shrinks - so therefore is no need to associate it to anything (other text).
I do use "middle left" as the alignment position for a couple other things (such as the Description of the drawing) so that start of the text is always at a certain point and it grows to the right.

rmc text > style > alignment position (top right icon)

RE: NX6 Drafting: how to align notes both Vertically and Horizontally

Another thing that may help is under Preferences>Selection>Cursor>Show Crosshairs.

Unless you're particularly fussy about the alignment this setting will aid in getting it quite close by eye.

jerry1423,
Just wanted to say thanks for the useful tips.  However, rather than deleting the construction lines, I just put them on their own hidden layer.
