Fire Pump Phase Reversal

Fire Pump Phase Reversal

Fire Pump Phase Reversal

(OP)
Can anyone explain to me how to test fire pump phase reversal. I know NFPA requires it to be tested but can not find out how this is done.

RE: Fire Pump Phase Reversal

14.2.7.5* Phase Reversal Test. For electric motors, a test shall be performed to ensure that there is not a phase reversal condition in either the normal power supply configuration or from the alternate power supply (where provided).

A.14.2.7.5  A simulated test of the phase reversal device is an acceptable test method.

RE: Fire Pump Phase Reversal

Start it once from each source, make sure it spins the right direction in each case...

Phase reversal will make it spin backward.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

RE: Fire Pump Phase Reversal

It has been my experience that most fire pump controllers have a button inside the panel you can push to simulate the "phase reversal" condition.  This is addition to making sure it runs in the right direction as previously noted.
