Custom Fastener System
Custom Fastener System
(OP)
Does anyone know how to modify the fasteners system to add hardware to it. The company I work for is wanting to start listing all of our hardware on our drawings, which we haven't done up till now. We use a wide variety of hardware, from material type to coating type, and need these added to the fastener table for selection.
Or if someone knows a way to get multiple descriptions out of a single item, that would work also. This I don't think is possible though.

RE: Custom Fastener System
By this I mean you will need individual parts to distiguish between material type, coating etc.
There is no way to get multiple descriptions from one part file.
For adding your own parts have a look at the Help on Standard Parts.

The benefits of using the fastener system is that you can pattern fasteners by selecting only holes on the faces of your models, it's really fast. Also the fastener system will make sure that the holes are colinear, the threads are correct and the length is good.
For other hardware that don't need that kind of intelligence such as casters, flange bearing and so on, I don't see the benefit of using it, a clean and simple folder organization should do the trick.
My 2 cents

RE: Custom Fastener System
Thanks for the post, but adding additional nuts and bolts to the fastener system is what I'm after. We use standard nuts and bolts here ei. 1/2-13, 1/4-20, things of that nature, but we use them in different materials. Some are 316 ss, 304 ss, carbon plated and some more exotic metals. I need to be able to use all of these in the fastener system or bring each nut, bolt, and washer in 1 at a time.
Do you have simple step-by-step instructions on how to add parts to the fastener system and get them to work. I have talked with my local SE rep, and the SE tech guys and they are all scaring me to death with how hard this will be. I know nothing about Access, so will this be to difficult for me to do?

RE: Custom Fastener System
For now what I can do is to give you those quick advice.
1.Check the Help files for Standard Parts.
2.You can import in several ways but I mostly use family of parts.
3.Make sure the parts have capture fit relationships.
4.For the Fastener system to search through your new files you have to make sure they have the corresponding category included in their properties. The property is "PartType" and to find the right value, the only way I found was to compare it with other fastener of the same kind. For example a nut it's 14.4 while a hex bolt it's 11.2.9.1
I'm suggesting that you try it yourself by following the help files and if you have question and/or problems don't hesitate to ask and I will try to help you the best I can.
Cheers
