NX6 FEM Assembly meshing outer surface vs all parts

NX6 FEM Assembly meshing outer surface vs all parts

(OP)
In NX6 I have an assembly made up of a large number of parts. I want to create a FEM that meshes around the outside off all intersected parts. For example, if a rod sticks out of a hole, I want the mesh to approach the rod and go up the rod in one continuous mesh. I do not want the hidden part of the rod meshed. I could (I think) accomplish this by uniting all the parts in the sketch, but if I do that I will lose the features of the assembly. Additionally, I cannot unite solid bodies and sheet bodies. Any tips?

RE: NX6 FEM Assembly meshing outer surface vs all parts

Either link all the bodies and then unite them into one or use the wrap assembly function to approximate the shape for meshing.

Cheers

Hudson
