layer states for split model view-not paperspace

layer states for split model view-not paperspace

if i split the model space view by VIEW>VIEWPORTS> then multiple viewports, is it possible to have different layer states for each of those model views? i mean, in view 1, i want to see layers 1,2 and three on, while in view 2, i only want to see layer 1 and 2 on etc. is it doable? regards.

RE: layer states for split model view-not paperspace

Ya its possible if you create the Viewports in your layout tabs you can create as many viewports as you would like.  Make sure to lock the viewports.  Then double click inside the one that you want to freeze layers out of.  Then go yo layers II and select the Freeze icon and start selecting what you want frozen in model.  It will only apply to that viewport in model not the overall model space drawing.

RE: layer states for split model view-not paperspace

This wont work in model though.  You would be forced to use paperspace.

thanks for your reply Pro! but i intend to do this in modelspace viewports, not paperspace.

RE: layer states for split model view-not paperspace

Yes P-Space Tabs are HUGELY useful, and DO provide a facility for managing layer states per viewport with all of the benefits of highly simplified operations and data organization and management within a drawing, but P-Space TABS like anything else takes time to master, and often today's particular task is too pressing...  Model Space viewports don't allow layerstate management per viewport, but can still be useful. Look into P-Space Tabs when you get the time, tho- you may find a useful tool there.

P-Space tabs are AT LEAST as useful in 2D drawing work as they are for 3D drawing work. Post back here with questions about 2D & 3D work in V-Ports in P-space tabs- lot's of good info available from members of this community !

Good Luck !

You can control the visibilty of layer content within each viewport easily with either Layer Manager or the Layer toolbar.

When you double click inside a viewport (entering model space) you can freeze each layer independantly from the other viewports.  A great benefit is that a single model can be viewed / plotted / published showing different information.

The icon to use for this option is "Freeze or Thaw in Current View" (or VP Freeze in Layer Manager) and is only accessible when in model space environment of the Layout Tabs.
