Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

(OP)
Hi guys,

As you may be aware, lately there has been some talk of recession. I have noticed in my region of the world which was in large demand is now slowing down. I have become a little concerned about my job.

I waant to know where are the boom regions in the world for structural engineers.

RE: Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lybia, Qatar, Bahrein, Russia, etc.. all those countries that milked in $145.00 per barril of oil for almost a year.
Find someone that has projects in that part of the world,
And as a structural Engineer, you'll go nuts over the building shapes thay do.

The middle east. OK. What offices are designing for the middle east. I know Sydney (Australia) offices design for the Middle East. Are there any other English speaking offices that are designing for the Middle East and will the Middle East feel the economic crisis like the US/UK/Australia.

asixth:

Most of the design work for the Middle east are done in India. I know this, since I have friends in that part of the globe all the time talking about thier work for middle east.

Hope this helped

EQguys,

Are they English speaking offices.

RE: Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

asixth,

Most Indians speak English, and Indian engineers all do.

Middle east work is also being done in other Australian offices (Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth), and by UK and some European offices.  Most is being done by the big consultancies, so those big firms are where you would start.

You will probably find, however, that work in that part of the world is also slowing.  I know of several projects that have been shelved or delayed.

hookie66,

Are you working in Australia or the US? Brisbane and Perth have been the busy areas leading into 2008 due to the commodities boom but that is all changing. I have even heard stories that Melbourne offices have been closing down because of the reduction in work.

RE: Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

The nuclear power industry is picking up and the energy sector is still doing fairly well I think.  Try Houston, they're a lot of energy related jobs there.

RE: Structural Engineering...Where are the Boom Regions

I recently saw stories of skyscrapers being abandoned half built in Dubai, as boom towns go, not so much.

Cheers

asixth,

Brisbane, but I am semi-retired.  Work is slowing here.

We do work mostly for institutional clients and we haven't slowed down a bit.
