ERS Leung Venting Equation (1992)

ERS Leung Venting Equation (1992)

ERS Leung Venting Equation (1992)

(OP)
In Leung's paper "Venting of Runaway Reactions with Gas Generation" AIChEJ 1992, allowance can be made for reduction in design flow arising from mass depletion during the emergency relief process in bubbly flow. The applicable reduction factor is given as (Eq 39)

W/Wmax = 1/(1+ ao^.5)^2

However in the well-known and much-used HSE "Workbook for Chemical Reactor Relief System Sizing" by Etchells and Wilday, the factor is quoted as (Eq A5.25)

W/Wmax = 1/(1+ao)^2

This version is considerably more conservative than Leung's original version. Is this a misprint or am I missing something here? I have seen no errata notice on this. Can anybody help on this one?

Thanks

MadTech
